For my senior thesis project at Full Sail University I decided to pursue a short narrative. I wanted to challenge myself as much as I could so that I can grow as a filmmaker. Currently, I am working on another draft of my script working out all the kinks getting it ready for shooting. I have also been reaching out to people via different websites in an effort to build my cast and crew. So far I have quite a few people on board. I am finishing up storyboarding as I write and so far I have found that helps a lot with being able to see the vision of the film. In the mean time it allows me to fix things that are not working. I have a few locations already locked and ready to go and I am also close to locking down a shooting schedule. Overall things are coming together nicely and I am excited! Thank you for your time!

My Philosophy For A Happy Life – Sam Berns – TED xMidAtlantic

When it comes to people that are inspiring it doesn’t get any better then Sam Berns. His life has been tough compared to most. At the age of 2 he was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Progeria. Yet even under extreme circumstances he lives life to the fullest each and every day. He is not afraid to pursue his dreams and he overcomes all obstacles in his way and he does it without complaint and in the most positive way possible. That is why he is an inspiration to me and to all who take the time to listen to what he has to say.

Avatar Movie Review

What makes a film a box office hit? Perhaps the right question is what makes a great film in general? James Cameron has most certainly figured that formula out. Having only made two films in sixteen years, his latest gem Avatar (2009) has become an even bigger cult hit then his previous venture Titanic (1997). With a total worldwide gross of over $2.7 billion and counting, Avatar has officially passed the Titanic’s record breaking gross, which stands a little above $2.1 billion.

Avatar is a modern day epic set in a world called Pandora. The main man in this unique sci-fi flick is Jake Sully played brilliantly by Sam Worthington. Jake is a handicap soldier struggling with the recent loss of his brother. His life changes when he gains his wings, or rather his new legs, when he becomes a part of the Avatar program on Pandora. Once he learns how to walk again via his new Na’vi avatar he becomes reborn, and he suddenly finds his purpose in life. He falls in love with a Pandora native named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). His moral fiber is put to the test when Pandora’s fate is in danger of being destroyed by the twisted Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who heads a mining project with the hopes of striking it rich. Jake must make a choice to either conform or stand up for what he believes in.

Although the film is enjoyed by people of all ages, the primary target is young people. Avatar has passed my test and is officially dubbed a great film. The criteria I use to judge a film consists of three elements. First and foremost a great film all starts with the writing. There has to be a great story that takes the audience on a journey. A great script is clear and concise, with dialog that is realistic and believable. James Cameron did a sensational job with the dialog in Avatar. For instance when Jake Sully (Worthington) does his last video blog the dialog is so well executed that if you just heard what was said instead of watching it, you would not be able to tell if this was a real blog on YouTube or if it was a film. Second, every great film consists of great characters. The audience needs to be able to relate to these characters. The most memorable character in this film is Jake Sully (Worthington). Jake is dealing with the loss of his brother while also overcoming the obstacle of having a handicap. We all have obstacles to overcome in life so we can relate to his struggles.

A great film contains amazing performances by its actors. The actor must make their character real; they must convince the audience to care deeply about them. The performance by every actor in Avatar was phenomenal. My favorite scene was when Jake Sully (Worthington) first experiences his avatar and he feels what it’s like to feel his legs again, watching his excitement made me happy for him. Finally, a great film will cause the audience to have an emotional reaction, good or bad.

Avatar takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, one moment your laughing, the next you’re crying, and then your angry. This film is the biggest piece of pop culture for our generation. Not because of the special effects but because of the story and the iconic characters that we all can relate to. It truely is one of the greatest adventures you will ever partake in as far as cinematic adventures go.
